Picture Cards are an exciting way to help a child learn new concepts, build vocabulary, and explore the world. Whether it’s shapes, animals, or new words, these cards turn lessons into awesome adventures!

What can Picture Cards be used for?

🗣️ Say it loud: Memorize and practice saying new words with confidence.

🔗 Make connections: Match pictures to words and spark meaningful relationships.

🧠 Build knowledge: Explore new lessons and topics.

Step 1: Pick your Topic 💫

❤️ Find a topic or lesson your kiddo will love! You can:

👉 Type it in: Enter any topic (animals, feelings, outer space, you name it).
👉 Browse ideas: Explore sample searches for inspiration.
👉 Select a template: Pick a ready-made deck and start right away.

Step 2: Cast Your Hero ✨

Add a personal touch by bringing your kiddo into the exercise! You can create your hero in three ways:

  • Enter details: Add age, hair color, and other features to generate your hero.

  • Upload a photo: Watch your child’s hero come to life with a real photo.

  • Let Nookly do its magic: Prefer a surprise? We’ll create a random hero for you.

💡 Already have saved profiles? Just click to feature them in your picture cards!

Step 3: Customize your Cards 🌟

✨ Here’s where the magic happens - tailor your cards to match your vision!

First, choose the card style that suits your learner's needs:

👉 Option A: Picture-Only Cards

  • Ideal for younger learners or early visual recognition.

  • Great for teaching object recognition, matching, or naming.

👉 Option B: Picture-and-Word Cards

  • Perfect for older kids or those building vocabulary and reading skills.

  • Includes an interactive mode to make learning more engaging!

You can also adjust:

  • Number of cards: Decide how many cards to include (each card shows one picture or picture + word).

  • Reading level: Choose from pre-reader to advanced reader levels.

  • Other details: Add specific preferences you'd like to see in your cards (e.g. focusing on 2D shapes / only summer fruits).

Step 4: Edit your draft language 🔄

🎨 Time to make any tweaks to your text or add your personal touches! You have two ways to edit text on your picture cards:

  1. Direct Text Editing

    • Click directly on the text you want to change.

    • Type your new word, phrase, or sentence.

    • Changes will save automatically.

    Example:
    ❌ “a curious rabbit” → ✅ “a happy rabbit”

2. Chat with Nookly

Sometimes you want bigger changes, and that’s where the chat comes in. You can:

  • Ask for a complete rewrite of your cards.

  • Request simpler or more complex versions.

  • Suggest specific text you’d like swapped in.

  • Let Nookly generate another version for you.

Example prompts to try:

  • “Rewrite the fruits so they all start with the same letter.”

  • “Switch the order of the 1st and 6th cards.”

Pro Tip: You’ll still be able to edit text after images generate, so don’t worry if you change your mind later.

Step 5: Bring your cards to life! 🎉

Your images will start generating (this usually takes ~5 minutes). As they appear, you can:

  1. Edit text (add, remove, or tweak).

  2. Stylize text (bold, resize, reposition).

  3. Edit images with full controls.

Click the ✏️ pencil icon on any image to regenerate with tweaks. Use chat for detailed requests (the clearer your prompt, the better the results!).

Your Image Editing Settings:

  • Zoom In/Out 🔍 – frame the character exactly how you envision.

  • Stability 🔧 – choose subtle or bold changes you'd like to see.

  • Expressiveness 🎭 – adjust how animated the hero looks.

💡 Tip: When you're editing using the chat, the way you phrase your request matters. Clear, specific prompts lead to the best results. [Check out this guide for examples of effective vs. less effective prompts.]

Once new images generate, pick your favorite—or keep tweaking until it matches your vision. You can edit one card at a time, and always return later for more changes.

✅ Don’t forget to hit Save Updates when you’re happy with an edit.
🎉 When your deck feels ready, click Save Edits & View.

🎉 Your cards are now ready; it's learning time!

You can click on "Expand Cards" to view your magical creation!

  • Interactive Mode: If you’ve created Picture-and-Word Cards, try toggling the word “on” and “off.” Blur it out to test memory or reveal it for a quick refresher!

  • Flip through your cards and let your child take the lead. Watch them learn, laugh, and grow!

Nookly’s Picture Cards interface shows a visual learning card featuring a child holding a large number ‘1’ with the word 'One' overlaid. A toggle switch at the top labeled 'Word on' and 'Word off' allows users to choose whether the written word appears on the card. The image illustrates the change: on the left, the card displays both the number and the word 'One'; on the right, the word is removed, leaving only the visual. This tool helps caregivers and educators personalize visual aids to support early language development and symbol recognition.
