Every personalized learning journey on Nookly begins with a character that feels just like your child. Whether you’re creating for a student, your child, or a whole classroom, you have two simple ways to bring a character to life, and the freedom to choose the one that works best for you!

Side-by-side options to create a child character on Nookly’s AI-powered learning platform: Left image shows a cartoon blonde girl with pigtails in a red shirt and overalls building with blocks for 'Enter Child Details'; right image shows a cartoon girl with long dark hair holding a camera for 'Upload a Photo'—both paths are for generating personalized children's avatars on Nookly.

✨ Option 1: Enter Child Details

Build your child’s avatar from the ground up by entering a few details and customizing their appearance, community members, and interests.

💫 Here's how it works:

Nookly character creation interface showing four steps to build a personalized child avatar: The Basics (name, age, gender, ethnicity), The Looks (appearance details), The Community (caregivers and family), and The Interests (hobbies and passions), with illustrated preview panels and a 'Generate' button.

1️⃣ Start with the Basics
Add essential information like:

  • Name

  • Age

  • Gender

  • Ethnicity

2️⃣ Customize the Looks
Tailor everything about their appearance:

  • Hair Color

  • Hair Type & Length

  • Eye Color

  • Skin Tone

  • Body Type

  • Accessories or Assistive Devices

3️⃣ Add the Community
Reflect your child’s support network:

  • Primary Caregivers

  • Family Members

  • Extended Community

4️⃣ Include Interests
Capture what makes them unique:

  • Favorite Pets

  • Hobbies and Sports

  • Other Interests

👉 Finally, click “Generate”

🎨 The child's character will now appear across all visuals you create, and their personalized profile is saved for all future content!

📷 Option 2: Upload a Photo

This option lets you upload a real photo of your kiddo, and we’ll turn it into a custom character with our AI magic!

Nookly avatar creation flow showing the photo upload option: a real photo of a young East Asian girl in a ball pit is transformed into a custom illustrated character using AI, highlighting the 'Upload a Photo' feature for personalized character creation.

💫 How it works:

1️⃣ Click "Upload a Photo." You’ll be asked to provide:

  • Name

  • Age

  • Gender

  • Ethnicity

  • A clear, camera-facing photo of your child

2️⃣ Photo Guidelines:

  • The child should be facing the camera directly

  • Good lighting helps the AI generate better visuals

  • Avoid group shots or blurry images

👉 Finally, click “Generate.”

🎨 Our AI will then transforms the photo into a Nookly character! The result is a storybook-style avatar that looks just like your child, and they’ll love seeing themselves in every adventure!

🔒 Privacy Note: Your photo stays private and secure. It is only used for generating the character and is never stored or shared elsewhere.

Once your child’s character is generated, you’ll be able to select the same profile to use across all personalized content!
