Visual Schedules turn a routine or activity into a finite sequence of personalized visual steps. They can support preparation, independence, and shared understanding by making the next step easier to see.
Why personalize a visual schedule?
Make a routine concrete: show a child what happens first, next, and last.
Use familiar context: include the people, places, objects, and language the child recognizes.
Match the type of support: create rules, sequential steps, or a recurring schedule.
Connect the visual to real action: view, print, or revisit the schedule while completing the routine.
A visual schedule can support practice and predictability, but it does not guarantee a particular behavioral or emotional outcome.
Before you begin
You can start creating without logging in. Nookly will ask you to log in or provide an email when it is time to save, purchase, or continue beyond the guest flow.
Step 1: Open Visual Schedules
Open Create, choose Make one thing, then select Explore all.
Choose I want to explore an existing tool, then Visual Schedules.
Enter a routine or activity, or choose a suggestion such as lining up, a morning routine, preparing for a trip, or visiting the dentist.
Select Let’s design magic.
Step 2: Choose who is following the schedule
Choose Start with a photo or Describe their look. Review the generated character, then continue.
Step 3: Customize the schedule
On the content-details page, set:
Number of steps using the minus and plus controls.
Reading level from Prereader through Advanced.
Schedule style: Rules, Sequential Steps, or Recurring Schedule.
Language.
Familiar people who may appear.
Anything else to know, such as the actual location, objects used, family wording, or an important exception.
Select Let’s craft [child’s name]’s schedule when ready.
Step 4: Review every step
Check that the sequence is accurate, observable, and realistic for the child. Edit available language, reorder steps if the draft allows it, and remove information that is unnecessary or private. Request a new version if the schedule does not match the real routine.
Step 5: Continue to checkout [if not subscribed]
Select Continue after approving the draft. Follow the live account, email, credit, subscription, or purchase steps shown. Review current terms on the live page before proceeding.
Step 6: Review and Edit your images
After finalizing your cast, you'll be redirected to review your draft and edit text and images.
You can click on the text and edit its content, font size, font-weight and underline. You can also change its position on the screen by clicking on the grid icon.
For images, you can describe your edit, replace the background with a white fill or upload a reference photo to influence the change applied.
Choose the right schedule style
Rules: a set of expectations that do not depend on a strict order.
Sequential Steps: a beginning-to-end process, such as getting ready for school.
Recurring Schedule: actions that repeat across a day, week, or familiar cycle.
