🎉 Make learning unforgettable: Turn every story into a meaningful, exciting adventure your child will always remember.
🧠 Boost social-emotional skills: Foster empathy, awareness, and confidence—all while having fun!

Let's explore how you can personalize and build your personalized story on Nookly! ⬇️

Step 1: Pick a Topic

The first step is choosing a topic to explore with your child!

It can be anything—from heartwarming tales about making friends with a puppy to gently tackling tougher situations like parents getting separated.

Think of the search bar as your magic wand. 🪄 Type in anything that comes to mind and you can tailor your story and refine it in the next steps.

The Nookly topic picker screen displays a bold heading reading “Today, I want to teach my child…,” followed by a full-width search bar with placeholder text “what’s your child working on.” Below the bar are a muted “Explore Tracks” label and a prominent “Ask Nookly” button, inviting you to type any topic—whether it’s a playful story about making puppy friends or a gentle lesson on big emotions—and instantly generate a personalized story to refine in the next steps.

Step 2: Personalize to your Learner

Now, the real magic begins! Tailor the story to your child’s needs:

  • If you’ve already created a child profile, simply select it from your existing profiles.

  • Don’t have one yet? You can start from scratch and build a new child profile.

📖 Need help creating a child profile? Check out this guide for a step-by-step walkthrough.

The Nookly personalization screen for Step 2, titled “Personalize the story to fit your learner,” shows a large “Start from scratch” card on the left and, on the right, a scrollable carousel of existing child profiles—each displayed as a rounded thumbnail labeled with names like Calum, Keziah, Oscar, Zomro2, Abdelrahman, Jake, and Alex—so you can either select one to tailor your story or click the scratch card to build a brand-new child profile.

You'll also be able to customize your story's:

  1. Story length: Choose between 8-24 pages.

  2. Writing style: Pick whimsical, practical, or heartwarming styles.

  3. Audio settings: Add read-aloud support if you're interested.

Step 3: Edit Story Captions

It’s time to add your personal touch to your story! Here, you can edit the captions to tweak, add, or remove anything you’d like.

💡 Want a fresh plotline? Click “Regenerate” to create a brand-new version of the story with a different plot and tex.

📖 Need help with editing? Here's a step-by-step guide.

The Nookly story editor screen opens with the prompt “One more step! You can add to, edit, or delete parts of your story below, but please make sure all character names and character attributes stay the same (no imaginary character just yet).” Below this, a draggable caption card displays the text “In the bustling city of New Delhi, Ashna, a curious 6-year-old with sparkling eyes, awoke to find her room filled with warm sunlight and the playful call of ‘Chirpy chirp chirp!’” complete with checkmark and X icons for approving or removing it. A plus button sits beneath to insert a new caption. The next card reads “Today was the day of the annual Family Fun Fair, a riot of colors and laughter, where Mommy and Daddy whispered, ‘Teamwork makes the dream work,’ as they packed vibrant snacks,” and shows an edit pencil icon. At the bottom are “Regenerate” and “Next” controls, illustrating how you can refine or re-generate sections of your custom Nookly story.

Note: If you've selected a story from the Community Library to personalize, you will not be able to edit the story captions, but you will be able to regenerate images when you view your final story through your Reading Nook.

Step 4: Choose your Character Avatars

Bring your story to life by selecting avatars for your characters!

For each main character, choose from 4 avatar options. It might take a few minutes to generate avatars, so feel free to explore other pages while our AI does its magic. ✨

The Nookly avatar picker, titled “Select the character that looks most like Ashna,” shows a horizontal carousel of four rounded‐corner avatar options—all depicting a young girl in a white shirt with dark hair in pigtails—against a white background. The second avatar is outlined in pink to indicate it’s been chosen, and three gray pagination dots below signal that more options can be scrolled into view.

Please Note: If you've selected a ready-made story from the Community Library, you will not be able to choose specific character avatars but the story will showcase the character features from your selected child profile.

Step 5: Regenerate Images & Edit Captions

Now it’s time to polish your story! If an image doesn’t quite match with your vision or shows an emotion you’d like to tweak, just turn on Edit Mode. Regenerate the image and adjust the text to make everything picture-perfect.

You’ve got up to 20 regenerations per story, so feel free to experiment!

Once your story looks just the way you want, click "Expand Story" and watch your story come to life. 🎉

Step 6: View & Read your Story

Voila! Your story is ready and you can flip through your story to enjoy the magic you’ve created!

🎧 If you’ve added audio, you can also enjoy listening to your story with our read-aloud feature!

To access your story later, you can click on "Leave Child View" and head to your "Reading Nook." From there, you can reread your story, regenerate images, or edit captions anytime. 📚

The Nookly story viewer displays a dark-themed interface with the colorful Nookly unicorn logo in the top left, a “Sound on” toggle, and prominent “Present” and “Share” buttons in the top right. Centered on the screen is a rounded‐corner story card showing an image of Hana joyfully raising her arms, overlaid with a play icon and a caption reading “Hana was a joyful girl who loved to play and laugh, but sometimes, she felt sad or worried too.” At the bottom of the view sits a “Leave Child View” link with a lock icon, guiding users back to their Reading Nook where they can revisit, regenerate, or edit their Nookly story anytime.
